Catch Up

Okay, so I haven't written much in a while. I am sure it doesn't matter since I don't think that anyone other than Garrett has even noticed that I have a blog. But here is an update anyway.

The meetings in Orlando went well. Very intimidating, but not quite as scary as I thought. Anyone who knows me I worry too much about things I can't control, and usually prematurely. The meetings were long, but one night I did get to go to Downtown Disney.

I have been playing chess a lot in the last few days. My latest game is on hold. It may look like I am doing well (I am the white side), but sadly, my opponent only started with the 2 knights, 1 bishop, the king, and the pawns. LOL! But at least with practice I seem to be getting a little better. No comment on where I got the nice chess set...

My knitting is coming along. I am still working on my grandmother's shawl and I started a cute bag. The sock is done and very big and ugly (like the mitten), so I won't bother posting it. But here (finally) is a picture of the striped scarf.

I am reading Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Neale Hurston. I can't wait until Oprah's made-for-tv movie this Sunday (with Halle Berry). The language in the book is so beautiful.

Last night a couple friends from Rochester were in town. I met them at Bruno's Bakery in the village. It was good to see them again. I haven't really seen anyone from Rochester since I left there, except for the few people that also settled down here in this area. I wish more people would come visit since I have no desire to go back there.

Here's a picture I took last week when I was on a very-late-night photo shoot in NYC. I wish I could get back into photography sometimes. I really miss black & white darkroom printing. I am sure I could find a darkroom for rent in the city, but then I remember I get bored with shooting. So I guess it would be hard to find anything to print.

I am off tomorrow to some warmer weather (80+ degrees!). Too bad I will be inside most of the time in meetings. Happy Valentine's Day everyone!

Latest Projects

I was thinking of taking a class at Knit New York to learn to make socks. They have a Sox & Lox class occassionally on Sundays. But then I started to try to knit a sock on double-pointed needles last night and so far it's going well! I may not need to take the class (or maybe I should for the social aspect of it). I also recently finished a mitten that came out waaay too big for me. It fits my "friend" well but he would never wear a mitten (even if I did actually bother knit the other one). Oh well. At least I am learning new techniques. I will have pictures soon of the striped scarf, the mitten, the sock (in progress) and the shawl I am knitting for my grandmother (also in progress) if I ever get the motivation to take out my camera (hopefully this weekend).

Ok, well, now that I have begun to sound like a total dork, on to other news. I am going to Orlando for a meeting in a week and a half with my boss. I am also due to go to London in May and Scottsdale in November for similar meetings (as well as a conference after the meeting in Scottsdale). My boss won't be joining me after the first time. So, I guess with this new job I will be seeing more of the world than I normally do. I wonder if there will be any free time for exploring...?

I just got the Damien Rice CD "O" with The Blower's Daughter on it (from Closer, for those that don't know). That song is just so haunting, I love it.

Now I am debating about going to Wegmans (yes, again). I am exhausted, but starving! Maybe I'll go tomorrow... Also looking forward to watching Ray this weekend. I am also being made to watch Alien... Netflix is a good thing.
