Flying Fingers

I visited Flying Fingers yarn shop this weekend, which is in a cute little town called Tarrytown, NY (about 45 minutes from here). I bought 5 skeins of Blue Sky Alpaca & Silk for the lacy shrug in Knit 2 Together and 3 skeins of Manos del Uruguay to make more felted slippers (from the same book). The store had yarn from floor to ceiling and was in an old Music Hall building.

Tarrytown was full of small antique shops, some the typical old, dusty shops run by little old men and women, and some of the shops had trendy vintage clothing and accessories and were run by young, crafty types. In one of the old, dusty shops, I saw these old crochet pot holders. They were single crochet in a tweedy yarn in the back and a white granny square in the front, with a crocheted flower. Very cute in that retro, vintage, my grandmother's kitchen style.

I also stopped at a "sweets" shop there and had a warm apple cider donut with vanilla ice cream and warm caramel sauce. Yummmm!

Now for some eye candy... I bought this skein from Ruby Sapphire Yarns on Etsy. I have so much sock yarn and probably won't have time to start any socks until after Christmas (although I may cheat and start some soon), but I was really dying for some new sock yarn, and so went searching. I have had good luck with the few etsy sellers that I have bought yarn from, and this time it was no different. My package came with some candy, handmade magnets, and this beautiful yarn that I am calling my peppermint yarn (although it's real name is "monica").
