It's Been a While

So, I have become addicted to Blue Sky Alpacas Alpaca Silk yarn. This yarn is so luxurious and unfortunately, is worth the price at about $11 per skein. I love this stuff. I have already made several of those cute gift pouches from the front cover of Last Minute Knitted Gifts and plan on making the Alpaca Silk gloves shown in Handknit Holidays soon.

Another growing addiction is Etsy. I started a shop and already sold the only item I had listed. I have a lot more to list as soon as I get a chance to take some pictures. I am more addicted to browsing and wishing to buy than to selling (which is why I haven't posted much yet). I also want to design some knit items to sell soon. I have been eyeing lots of different sellers' shops and items but have so far only purchased one thing: one of sweethoneycomplex's adorable crocheted cupcake keychains.

I visited three new yarn stores in the last couples weeks. A few weeks ago I went to Suss Designs in Greenwich Village. They have a beautiful store and are much bigger than either Knit New York or Purl Soho. I love the hardwood floors, the knitted items for sale, and there is a huge selection of yarn, kits, and patterns. This is the only place I know of where, for only about $56, you can buy handknit thong panties. I was very afraid that all of it would be Suss's own brand of yarn, but only about a quarter of the yarns were hers. Her book, Hollywood Knits Style, uses all of her yarns in the patterns, so it is good to know where I can get them without having to substitute. This past weekend I went to Stix-n-Stitches in Monclair, NJ, which it turns out isn't very far from me at all. It was also a very nice store of a good size with lots of space for people to sit and knit. I bought some Adrienne Vittadini yarn to try out. Since no one else in the area seems to have Blue Sky Alpacas Alpaca Silk, I knew I'd have to venture back to the city to go to Purl. They had it, as expected, and I bought way too many skeins, as well as a few other yarns.

Not too long ago, I mentioned the potential for some new friends in a post. Well, I joined a Stitch 'N' Bitch group. We meet in Clifton about once a week to chat and knit. As one girl mentioned though, one-needle crafts are also allowed. Right now, I have met six girls, but only two (plus me) come regularly. I am happy about that so far because it is easier to get to know people when there are fewer. I think that another post for newcomers will be up on Craigslist soon, though, if anyone is interested in joining us.

I do hope to get some of my pictures up soon, but I know I always say that. I am almost finished with the flowered handbag from Family Circle Easy Knitting and I plan on just adding a pom-pom to the bunny I finished from Last Minute Knitted Gifts.

In non-knitting-related news, I hope to have the website of Naval & Maritime Art that I have been working on for a friend up this week. Link coming soon!
