Notes: Scoop Neck Tank
from
Vogue Knitting Knit
Simple Magazine
Spring/Summer 2007
I
was looking for a simple tank top in my closet on one of the
rare warm days early this year and somehow I couldn't find one.
Also I really wanted to divert myself from my more difficult
projects, so I cast-on for this much easier project. Unfortunately,
it didn't turn out nearly as well as I had hoped.
I
had this Calmer in my stash (because, remember, I am knitting
from my stash right now) to make a project from the Rowan Calmer
book. Since I know it was unlikely I would ever end up actually
making that project, I decided to use the yarn for this instead.
I thought the calmer would be perfect for this since it is a
75% cotton/25% acrylic blend. The yarn actualy called for in
the pattern was a cotton/lycra blend (Classic Elite Star).
I
pretty much knit this like the pattern, with the only major
modifications being that I made it about 3" longer than
the pattern called for and it was knit in the round up to the
arm holes. However, two "disasters" occurred during
this seemingly simple project.
First,
somehow the side-ribbing became off-center. And I didn't notice
it until the top was completely done. The pattern is knit from
the bottom up. So the second "disaster" came when
I realized I made it too short. I am ignoring the off-center
ribbing. But I wanted to at least be able to wear the top for
casual weekends. So, I picked out the bottom ribbing. Then I
cast-on again and knit in rib for about 1" (1/4" more
than the original ribbing), then stockinette for a couple inches.
Then, I grafted the new piece to the original piece. This resulted
in a slight line going across the bottom (you can see it a little
in the picture) because my kitchener technique is definately
not perfect. The other thing is that I wish I had also made
the top part of the tank top longer- above the waist ribbing,
so that it would sit a little better on me.
